What it is

The ATEM SDI Extreme ISO is Blackmagic's compact SDI switcher with 8 SDI inputs, ISO recording (every input + program/clean to a USB-C SSD), built-in hardware streaming engine, two upstream chroma keyers, downstream keyer, DVE, two media players, two stinger transitions, and a Fairlight-based audio mixer with EQ and compression on every input. It's the SDI sibling to the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO.

Who it's for

Field production for corporate, sports, conferences, and houses of worship that have already committed to SDI cameras. The form factor is a desktop unit (not 1RU), which is great for OB carts and POV setups but requires a strap or plate if you want to rack it.

Real-world notes

The ISO recording is the killer feature. Plug a Samsung T7 into the USB-C port and you walk out with editable ISOs of every camera plus the program mix — that's a $50k workflow for a fraction of the price. DaVinci Resolve imports the project directly with cuts already on the timeline.

Streaming is rock solid. We've run multi-hour live events with zero dropouts to YouTube and Vimeo. The streaming bitrate adjusts automatically based on network conditions.

The control surface is well laid out for the form factor. For complex shows with frequent macro recall, pair it with an ATEM Mini Extreme panel via Ethernet, or use the desktop software for keyboard shortcuts.

Bottom line

If you need SDI inputs and ISO recording in a portable package, this is the best dollar-for-feature switcher on the market. It's not a replacement for a Constellation HD in a fixed install, but for traveling rigs it's hard to beat.
